Product Description Embedded HDMI simplifies cabling and provides pristine and stunning clarity multimedia experience together with PC, game consoles, Blu-ray Disc players, etc. ASUS VW246H Smart Contrast Ratio Technology automatically adjusts the luminance of the backlight for better displays according to the image contents, and improves the contrast ratio to 20000:1, which results in more realistic depictions of night scenes during games or movies.

Great TV for Xbox September 1, 2010 Ryan Smith I've never had an HDTV before so I can only speak for this one, but I'd have to say this TV is fantastic. Very bright, rich colors with dark blacks. There is no ghosting. The only problem is that some blacklight bleeding is visible on the top and bottom of the screen, but only when its a dark/black screen. Its barely noticible though, and when the screen is showing things that aren't very dark you can't see it at all.
Better than a LCD HDTV August 30, 2010 J. Jiamachello (Cleveland, OH) I purchased this screen to replace an obsolete Standard Def non-digital TV in the garage. The screen is bright, clear, able for viewing from about any angle. Why is it better than a HDTV? Since we have Uverse it is fed via HDMI cable for television broadcast. Better yet, it can also easily function as a computer mornitor for my laptop in the workshop top using supplied DVI cords. 1080p. 2 ms response/refresh means absolutely no blur in sports programs. Awesome value. Plan to buy another for our bedroom.
The monitor quality is top-notch. Will wall mount. Very pleased.
Great monitor, but the speakers are lacking August 27, 2010 User123 I use this monitor for PS3 gaming with HDMI and PC use with the DVI cable. I bought this monitor solely on the basis that it was perfect for PS3 gaming without the dreaded input lag that other flat screen lcds cause. I don't have access to a CRT monitor for a lag test, but other people have tested it and is lag free. The PC use was just an added benefit to me to replace my aging 15 in KDS LCD monitor that I owned since 2001. The only problem that I had so far with this LCD is that the power button got stuck for some reason and I was unable to turn it off. However pulling the plug and replugging worked and I have not seen this reoccur for some time. Viewing quality is very good for the price. As for the viewing angle that someone commented about, if you sit too close then the images look darker and faded at different angles. You're supposed to sit a certain length in front of an LCD to get optimal viewing.
I don't like the adjustment buttons on the bottom left. They feel cheap and difficult to press. I just leave everything on standard settings and rarely touch them, so it's not a big deal. One major gripe I have with this monitor is the detection of multiple input devices. If you have 2 video cables connected (HDMI and DVI for example), the monitor will not cycle through the input options (VGA, HDMI, DVI) to find a video signal. It will just try to detect the last used input device. Therefore, you would have to press the change device option to get HDMI input, if you previously used DVI. Same thing goes for other inputs.
The built in speakers are OKAY, but are lacking. The speaker placement is in unusual place built into the back of the monitor. Therefore sounds are bland compared to having speakers pointed directly at you. I have my own higher quality speakers, so output the sound to them instead.
You get what you pay for August 20, 2010 johnners Pros:
Big screen size for the price
Built-in sound is convenient, frees up an outlet
Three video inputs (DVI, VGA and HDMI)
DVI and VGA cords included in the box
1080p HD
Cons:
TN panel
Viewing angles not good (vertical not bad, but horizontally if you view off-centre it has a yellow tinge) Not so bad if you sit further away
Screen has an overall yellow tinge
Sound is weak, speakers on the back of the monitor so sound muffled
Sound goes off when the monitor goes into standby or if you swap inputs - not good if you are listening to internet radio while doing something else
I was slightly disappointed, but I wonder if I was expecting too much for the price. You do get a big screen, and the realestate you get is fantastic, especially coming from a 17" CRT running at 800x600! Also I'm slightly biassed because I'm visually impaired and sit close to the screen, and the poor viewing angles are even worse when you're up close. If your eyesight is good and you can sit further away, you won't be disappointed.
I plan to save for a few more months and buy a smaller monitor with a superior IPS panel and use this one as a second monitor to watch DVDs.
Excellent value for the price! August 17, 2010 JEROME M. Malerich I was doing research on a cost effective way of getting HD for my xbox 360. I was researching for monitors and I found this one. The reviews were good and setup seemed easy. I ordered one and my only concern was if there would be dead pixels or if the colors would be to bland. Both concerns vanished as i setup this monitor. All I had to do was pop the monitor into its stand and hook up my xbox 360 slim through hdmi. Then I changed the source to hdmi, upped the sound level, and changed the picture to scenery mode. After this I was ready to go. I turned my 360 and then my favorite part was changing the display on my 360 to 1080p. The picture on MW2 has never looked better!
